This listing was composed in several steps and draws on the expert judgment of phenomenologists across the planet. First a list of about 120 book titles was selected from the Encyclopedia of Phenomenology (Kluwer, 1997) and sent to the contact persons of almost 120 phenomenological organizations identified thus far with a request to relay it to other members of their organizations and it was requested that other first-class books be recommended. This process was repeated twice.Everything recommended has been accepted. Excessive inclusion seemed preferable to excessive exclusion. There are now 415 titles and they come from every region of the earth. Our tradition is, after all, planetary. If one wished to draw on this listing in encouraging the enhancement of one’s library collection, nobody would discourage it!
I for one am quite impressed not only at the product but also how well the cooperative effort to produce it has gone.
